Lehmus Roastery

Linnoituksen lesoin – Barrel aged coffee

€19,90

Linnoituksen lesoin - kahviteenuija - Lehmus Roastery
Quality:

Lehmus Roastery's popular barrel-flavored coffee series is based on the fortress's lesoin. In the series, raw coffee beans are aromatized in an oak barrel containing alcohol. The roasting creates very interesting flavors and aromas in the coffee.

This time too, the coffee has received its aroma from the special gin of the Nuija Distillery in Lappeenranta. This is an experimental small batch that we have made in collaboration. In one batch, Nuija gin has been flavoured with Lehmus Roastery's Marssite, which has infused the gin with aromas of licorice root, anise and black tea.

With this teagin, we have aromatized the barrel used to mature the whiskey and allowed the raw beans to aromatize for four days.

We have used Caturra Arabica from Guatemala, grown by the Conception Villatoro family. We visited the Villatoro farm in February when the picking season had started, and we were the first to taste this coffee and immediately reserved a batch for ourselves. The coffees were picked in February and shipped directly to Europe and our roastery just a couple of weeks ago. Fresh harvest!

The illustration for the package is inspired by the most beautiful interior in Lappeenranta, i.e. the ceiling paintings and floor decorations of the hall of the Lappeenranta Town Hall, built in 1829. The Town Hall is usually closed to the public, but for this noble cause we were granted an audience by the city administration to photograph the decorations. Based on the images, the designer Ville Kauppi has reproduced and designed the coffee package label to honor this oldest wooden town hall in Finland and its historicity.

The name "Lesoin" (the fortress's laziest coffee) refers, of course, to Lehmus Roastery's slogan "Lesompaa kahvia" (more laziest coffee), but also to the fact that the label is crowned by the general emblem of the cavalry brigade and cavalry, i.e. crossed swords, found above the entrance to the oldest building in the historic Lappeenranta fortress, which was completed in 1772 as a military guardhouse.

Taste profile: Soft mouthfeel. Liqueur-like and rich aroma and taste. The aromas also have the sweetness of cane sugar and hints of ripe banana.
