Lehmus Roastery is launching two new coffees today. May we introduce you: Kesämäki and Kimpinen!
Decaffeinated Kesämäki and medium-roasted espresso Kimpinen are among the so-called neighborhood coffees.

Kesämäki brings a much-desired decaffeinated coffee to Lehmus Roastery's permanent selection. Kesämäki's coffee beans arrive from Colombia, the land of haciendas and large courtyards - so the atmosphere is the same as on the roasted streets of Kesämäki, which is mostly single-family homes and is located next to Lappeenranta Airport.
The decaffeinated coffee has a soft malty taste. When drinking Kesämäki, you can practically feel the summer morning dew on the grass under your feet and hear the birds singing at the end of the garden.
Caffeine is already being removed by the dissolution method in Colombia

Kesämäki's coffee beans arrive from the Huila region of Colombia. The coffee batch produced by small farmers from the La Plata province is a blend of Castillo, Caturra and Colombia Arabica beans.
Caffeine not only gives coffee its invigorating effect but also a slight bitterness. When caffeine is removed from coffee, that natural taste is lost from the drink. Many people are hypersensitive to caffeine, and on the other hand, decaffeinated coffee is an excellent alternative for those who enjoy evening coffee.
Lehmus Roastery has selected a high-quality decaffeinated coffee from our coffee broker Cafe Imports. This particular coffee is first selected and tasted as a regular caffeinated bean. The caffeine is then removed by steeping the green coffee in water with the addition of ethyl acetate, which is obtained naturally from fermented sugar and other natural sources. Ethyl acetate binds the chlorogenic acid inside the coffee bean, thus enabling the caffeine to be isolated from the bean. Or at least that's how we understand it - chemists, enlighten us if we're talking about ourselves!
After decaffeination, about 0.1-0.3 percent caffeine remains in coffee.
As lean as the Leaning Tower of Pisa

Our second new coffee is already a familiar one, as our medium roast espresso Kimpinen was previously known as Lehmus Roastery's House Blend Espresso. Its refined flavor profile and high-quality coffee itself made it a neighborhood coffee.
While observing the classic shape of Lappeenranta's water tower, it is a peaceful and pleasant place to enjoy coffee, either as an espresso or a longer version, at Kimpinen Corners.

The coffee is a blend of two origins. It includes a blend of Arabica beans from the Minas Gerais region of Brazil and Arusha, Blue Mountain and San Ramon Arabica beans from Papua New Guinea. The combination creates a nutty and full-bodied coffee with a hint of chocolate.
Kimpinen is the base for espresso drinks at our roastery-café Satamatie 6, and its smoothness has garnered a lot of praise. We wanted to create this kind of espresso alongside the classic Italian dark espresso. Kimpinen can also be ordered with a filter grind if you want to try it in a regular coffee maker.
