Three dark roast summer coffees and a short story by Rosa Liksom make up the Best of Summer box.

Kolme tummapaahtoista kesäkahvia ja Rosa Liksomin novelli muodostavat Kesän parhaat -laatikon

A sure sign of summer are three coffees called Cottage Roast , Holiday Roast and Summer Roast , as they are the delicious dark roast coffees from Lehmus Roastery's Best of Summer package .

We import the coffees as individual products and this year they will be available in well-stocked grocery stores around the country starting from May Day until the summer heat, or while supplies last!

These are three top-quality coffees produced by small farmers, roasted by Lehmus Roastery in Lappeenranta, which has been voted the best roaster in Finland three times.

The Best of the Summer box also includes a summer short story by author Rosa Liksom.

In addition, we are releasing a Summer's Best box, sold only on our own channels, which includes three coffees and a summer short story. This year, the short story was written by Rosa Liksom, a writer and artist who has received the Finlandia Prize and the State Literature Prize, among others. (Interview at the end of the article.)

Liksom's summer short story called Coffee is a joyful story about a coffee-buying trip from decades past. The Coffee short story is published exclusively in Lehmus Roastery's Kesän parhaat box and is not available elsewhere.

The short story and summer coffees are already a tradition, as this is the second year that we have published this summer's best takeaways, takeaways, vacation gifts and summer everyday life rescue packages! Last year, the short story for this best summer box was written by author Juha Itkonen .

Dark coffees are perfect for summer lunches and desserts.

Cottage Roast, Summer Roast and Holiday Roast are dark roast coffees. Dark coffees are soft, full-bodied and perfect for summer barbecues and desserts. Very light light coffees are not at their best with summer dishes, as spicy dishes require a strong-tasting coffee as a companion – that's when dark roasts come into play.

You can also safely add milk or oat drink to dark roasted coffees, as the roasted aromas combined with milk only add more roundness and softness to the mouthfeel. Of course, it's always worth tasting coffee black, but in the summer you can also just enjoy your coffee however you like.

Cottage roast coffee arrives from Brazil.

At the cottage roast, you'll be surrounded by familiar tablecloths, surrounded by the aromas of the beach sauna, and dressed in your favorite cottage clothes. The coffee at the cottage roast comes from Jose Rodolfo Delpupo's Dom Destino farm in the Espirito Santo region of Brazil.

The coffee is a typical dark roast coffee, meaning its aromas are chocolatey, roasted nuts, and it has a full mouthfeel.

These are coffee beans of the Catuai Arabica variety, grown at an altitude of over 1000 meters. The coffees have been processed using the washed method, which gives the coffee aromas a bright and clean aroma. The roast level is approximately 3.5/5.

Holiday roast is a dark roast coffee from Peru.

A holiday roast is enjoyed no matter the weather, because there's no other way to enjoy it in Finland. The aromas are the freshness of a holiday reading list, the relaxation of leaving a family party, and the roastiness of a barbecue.

The holiday roast also tastes dark and full-bodied, soft and sweet, and slightly chocolaty, like a quality coffee. The aromas also have a slight fruitiness and the freshness of orange.

The coffee in the holiday roast comes from small farmers in the village of El Basal in the Jaen region. The blend of Caturra, Bourbon and Typica Arabica varieties is also a washed batch, with aromas that

Caturra, Bourbon & Typica which is grown on a small, 15 hectare coffee farm at a very high altitude, 1470–1700 meters. The coffee has received 86 points in the quality assessment, which means it is a high quality coffee.

Summer roast arrives from Colombia.

A summer roast, on the other hand, is as lovely as the thought of running through a flower meadow, sweet as the first strawberries of summer, and fresh as the first sip of a glass bottle of jaffa.

Summer roast is a soft and full-bodied coffee, with a taste of chocolate and sweetness typical of dark roasts, as well as the darkness of the roast. Summer roast coffee comes from the Divino Nino smallholder community in the Huila region of Colombia. The blend of Castillo, Caturra and Colombia Arabica varieties has been grown at a very high altitude, at 1350-1700 meters, and this coffee has also been processed using the washing method, which makes the coffee's aromas bright and clear. So it's also quality coffee!

Rosa Liksom's Coffee short story takes you across the border to Sweden

Lehmus Roastery was honored to have Rosa Liksom as the author of the summer short story for this summer's Best of the Best box. Liksom has been awarded more awards than Lehmus Roastery, so the work written by this Helsinki-based artist fits our slogan "Lesser Roasting" like a seal to its resting place.

Liksom began his career as a novelist and has been awarded, among others, the JH Erkko Prize, the Kalevi Jäntti Prize, twice the Finnish State Prize for Literature, the Finlandia Prize, the Pro Finlandia Medal and the Nordic Prize of the Swedish Academy, to name a few. His Finlandia Prize-winning work Cabin No. 6 has also been the subject of a film of the same name, which was awarded the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival last year.

The Coffee short story deals with a personal trip to Sweden to get coffee. For Liksom, who spent his childhood in the Tornio River Valley, such trips were part of everyday life in his childhood, and reminiscing about them in the form of a short story afterwards seemed natural.

Let's start by asking what your relationship with coffee is like, or is there one?

"I usually only drink coffee in the morning. I make myself a cafe au lait in a large mug. I froth the oat milk with a whisk, and I use dark roast coffee. I enjoy my morning coffee with deep pleasure. For years, my favorite coffee was orange coffee, but I haven't found it in years."

While sipping your coffee, you probably also made the decision to accept our assignment, a summer short story. Where did the idea for the text itself come from?

"The assignment was enjoyable because I remember the coffee-seeking trips to Sweden from my childhood and youth as sunny and fun trips. It was nice to remember them while writing this."

You have written long novels and shorter short stories. How do these works compare to each other?
"The process is pretty much the same, except the workload is incomparable. I do years of background work on novels, usually a few days on short stories. Of course, editing a short story is easier than a novel. I wrote this short story in about three weeks, so I always started my workday by working on it."

Did you drink coffee while writing this short story?

"I drink cold water when I write. It does wear off because I get hot when I write."

Summer is coming, albeit with a twist. Do you have any special summer plans?

"I sail with my family for five weeks in the summer – usually in Sweden or Estonia. So we're already planning to get the boat ready to sail."
