Lehmus Roastery is launching a new product series, Limited, focusing on particularly interesting and particularly fine coffees. The series will be released at regular intervals, introducing a completely new coffee and flavor each time.
The first to be added to the Black-speaking Limited package is Ethiopian Rocko Mountain, an Ethiopian Heirloom Arabica coffee bean from the Yirgacheffe region. The coffee is grown at an altitude of 1950-2150 meters.
The taste is recognizable, as Rocko Mountain has a taste of blueberry and tropical fruit. The acidity is floral with a hint of lime. Each infusion gives a very delicious and versatile cup. The scent is rich and downright intoxicating.
Coffee from Ethiopia is a fitting choice for Lehmus Roastery's first special batch, as the coffee plant's country of origin is Ethiopia.
LIMITED IS A ROASTING MASTER'S WORK

Roaster at Lehmus Roastery Visa Tuovinen is excited about the Limited series, as it allows the roastery to showcase a wider range of interesting coffee flavors alongside its high-quality basic line.
"Some of these Limited Series products are only available in a bag or two. That means that less than a hundred kilos of green coffee cannot be used to make a completely new product, but it would be a shame if it couldn't be roasted and made available to our customers."
Limited series coffees may be slightly more expensive than regular Lehmus Roastery coffees. The basic idea is freedom. The idea is that in this category the roaster does not have to think about any spreadsheet programs or yield expectations. Limiteds can be anything, as long as they are interesting, super good and taste excellent.
"This is, in a way, a master roaster's work. You should always treat raw materials with respect, and the Limited Series can be refined, experimented with, and developed endlessly. Now we're given the opportunity to do so."
Limited edition coffees are released without a prior schedule, precisely because of the freedom of roasting.
ROCKO MOUNTAIN STARTED LAST SPRING

Tuovinen chose the first Limited Series coffee last spring at the Helsinki Coffee Festival. He went through a cupping, or tasting test, at a coffee supplier and immediately fell in love with the taste and aroma of Ethiopian coffee.
"This was significantly different from other similar coffees in terms of its properties, and we immediately reserved two bags for ourselves, as we knew this would run out quickly."
Coffee also does good, as part of the proceeds from the green coffee goes to the Ethiopian organization Girls Gotta Run. It focuses on improving the living conditions of women in the country through running and education.
After the festivals, development work began. Rocko Mountain is roasted light to fully reveal the coffee's own aromas and flavors. Light roasting is laborious and requires great precision from the roaster.
"Light roast coffee has the highest acidity and aromas. It takes careful work to find just the right balance without the roast being underdeveloped. Medium roast is generally relatively safe and 'easy' to make, but very light and very dark require much more work," Tuovinen describes.
Limited is available both ground and in beans, but Lehmus Roastery exceptionally recommends purchasing the coffee in beans whenever possible.
"If you grind the coffee yourself right before brewing, you get the best flavor experience out of it. But it tastes good anyway," Tuovinen says.
THE PACKAGE ALSO EXPOSES SPECIAL QUALITY

The package's illustration uses images of linden leaves from Lappeenranta.

The packaging of the Limited product series is dark and plays with different shades of black through both lacquer and matte surfaces.
The labeling uses silver and tones that differ from Lehmus Roastery's usual line. The distinction is intentional. Since the coffees are also more valuable than average, the packaging also reflects the same world.
The first Limited edition is on sale at Satamatie 6 and online. Price €14.90/200 g.
