Iced latte at home - this is how you make it!

Jäälatte kotona - näin valmistat!

Cool coffee drinks are becoming increasingly popular in the summer, and it's no wonder. A little refreshing coolness is incredibly refreshing, especially during the summer heat.

The two most popular cold coffee drinks are probably iced lattes and cold brew coffee. This time we will focus on iced lattes and present a recipe for making a good homemade latte, for example at home.

We use the same recipe at our roastery and café at Satamatie 6 , so if you don't feel like getting to work at home, you're welcome to come and taste the hot drink prepared by our baristas!

Background of lattes and iced lattes

The original latte is a coffee drink that is about one-third espresso and two-thirds hot milk foam. It differs from another popular espresso-based coffee drink, cappuccino, in its volume and milk consistency.

A latte is a larger portion and contains more steamed milk than a cappuccino. A cappuccino, on the other hand, has a higher proportion of milk foam than a latte.

Both coffees belong on the breakfast table in Italy, but in other parts of the world both drinks are also part of afternoon drink menus.

The word "latte" is Italian and means milk, but its meaning has expanded to mean the union formed by rich milk and delicious espresso.

Recipe: how to make your own iced latte

Result.

For an iced latte you need ice cubes, espresso, milk and milk foam. Oat milk also works. Satamatie uses Lehmus Roastery's Kimpinen espresso .Sammonlahti is also suitable for an iced latte.

First, take a large glass. At Satamatie we use glass jar-shaped glasses that many shops sell, especially in the summer.

If you have an espresso machine, first froth a small amount of milk and leave the frothed milk to cool.

Then make a double espresso and leave it to cool.

Add ice cubes to the glass and fill the glass about three-quarters full with regular or oat milk. We recommend Oatly iKaffe as it mixes perfectly with the coffee.

Pour the espresso into the glass. Let it drip and mix into the milk and ice on its own as much as it can.

Scoop a little more ice and pour some more milk foam over the whole thing.

Decorate the milk foam with, for example, chocolate raw cocoa powder or your other favorite flavor.

Serve it to yourself or a friend!

If the espresso machine is not in use

Without an espresso machine, making espresso can be difficult, as can frothing milk. However, you can still make a refreshing drink at home.

Brew as strong a dark coffee as possible, for example Lehmus Roastery's Lauritsalaa . You can let it cool, unless you are very thirsty. Fill a glass with ice, add cold milk, pour the dark coffee on top and enjoy a cool summer drink!
